Modernist Maverick

Designers can’t get enough retro this season and Trina Turk is no exception. The Trina Turk Modernist Maverick collection for late summer/fall salutes three icons of international modernism, Sonia Delaunay, Eileen Gray, and Anni Albers. The collection focuses on primary colors and dynamic themes, and features 20’s era inspired color blocking, color clashing and print mixing with bold patters. Look for this fashion trend to be a staple in the upcoming season.
Inspired by three modernist mavericks in their own right, Sonia Delaunay, Eileen Gray and Anni Albers each brought their own approach to the modernist art movement. Sonia Delaunay was famous for her bold prints and patchwork designs. Eileen Gray is one of the great female furniture designers, known for using geometric designs with industrial materials. Anni Albers experimented with new and unusual material combinations, and was the first woman to have a solo show at the MoMA.
Trina Turk’s collection pays homage to 20’s and 30’s modernist flair. The flapper inspired Abstraction dress features a bold, abstract print with a drop waist, pleats and the hemline at the knee.  The color block Cubist dress is a bold statement in black and white. Her textile print designs, which evolved from her paintings, were mostly created in the 1920s, ‘30s, and ‘40s. Her patterns remain remarkably timeless today, and foreshadow much of the textile design of the ‘50s, ‘60s and ‘70s.

I am super excited for this deco era inspired line, a throwback to a time when artists experimented with new and unusual materials and color combinations. Look for these styles awww.trinaturk.com or a department store where Trina Turk is sold.
